Individual Therapy
The goal of therapy is to explore personal issues, emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, with the ultimate aim of improving mental health, coping skills, and overall well-being.
Key Elements of Therapy
- Confidentiality: The therapy space is private and confidential, ensuring that clients feel safe to express their thoughts and emotions without fear of judgment or disclosure.
- Therapeutic Relationship: The bond between therapist and client is fundamental. It creates a supportive, trusting environment where clients can open up about their concerns.
- Tailored Approach: Therapists often use different therapeutic modalities or techniques depending on the individual’s needs.
- Goals: Therapy typically starts with the client and therapist setting specific goals. These goals might range from managing anxiety, improving self-esteem, or navigating relationship difficulties.
- Self-Exploration: I encourage clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, past experiences, and behaviors to gain insight and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
- Skill Building: I teach coping strategies, relaxation techniques, or communication skills to help clients manage stress, anxiety, depression, or other challenges.
- Duration: The length of therapy can vary depending on the issue at hand. Some clients might only need a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy.
Benefits of Therapy
- Emotional Support: Provides a safe, non-judgmental space to process emotions.
- Self-Awareness: Helps clients gain a deeper understanding of their behaviors and thought patterns.
- Improved Coping Skills: Teaches practical skills to handle life’s challenges more effectively.
- Personal Growth: Encourages personal development and promotes healthier relationships with oneself and others.

Before scheduling an appointment, I offer a free 15 minute consultation to obtain relevant information and determine fit.
Because of the importance of developing trust and establishing a consistent routine, I ask new clients to start treatment by meeting with me weekly. As we get to know each other, we can discuss other options for ongoing treatment. Session length and frequency may be adjusted over time as appropriate.

*Due to the limits of my private practice, I do not see people struggling with high risk for suicide/serious self-harm or active substance abuse. Anyone requiring more than weekly contact who needs greater access than I can provide would not be a good fit. For this reason, it is very important that you are aware of other services available in the event of a crisis. If you experience a crisis or emergency, call 988 or go to your local emergency room.
